RSS Frequently Asked Questions

What is the proposal renewal process?

Renewal proposals are either in June or July depending on your start date.  If your start date is in July, then the proposal will be due in June.  If your start date is in August or later, then the proposal will be due in July.  You will need to submit the following documents:

·         RSS Renewal Proposal

·         HMS DCE Disclosure form – for all course directors and planners

·         Net Income Distribution form – completed and signed.

All above-referenced forms can be downloaded from the Forms tab on the RSS website.

Who needs to submit a disclosure form? What is the COI process?

Any person in a position to control content needs to fill out a disclosure form.  All course directors, planners and speakers need to fill out a disclosure form.  The form is good for 12 months (provided there are no changes in relationships) so recurring speakers can complete it prior to their first talk. Forms should be updated each academic year.

If relevant financial relationships are reported on this form, please have the course director complete the peer review of content as described in the bottom section of page 1. After they review it, please have course director sign and date page 1.

If the course director or planner discloses are relevant financial relationship, HMS GCE will handle the COI resolution during the proposal review.

When are certificates issued?

Certificates are sent out once per year after the July check-in.  If anyone is in urgent need of a certificate during the year, the course administrator should email us with the person’s name and total number of credits to date.

How do I start a new RSS?

New RSS Activities are approved on a rolling basis by the HMS GCE accreditation team. Each proposal will go through a CME review in which the course directors may be asked to make corrections/edits. Aside from a CME review, each new proposal also goes through a medical review by an HMS faculty member. The process can take several weeks and sessions held before a final approval will not be awarded AMA PRA Category 1 Credits

The following forms should be completed and emailed back to ceinhospital@hms.harvard.edu

•        RSS New Activity Proposal (e-mailed back as a word document)

•        Net Income Distribution form (NID) form (the budget page and department chair’s approval) (e-mailed back as a pdf document)

•        HMS DCE Disclosure form – for all course directors and planners

The accreditation fee for an RSS activity is $1500. This fee is for the entire academic year, not individual sessions. Please note we cannot accept courses who receive commercial support.

All above-referenced forms can be downloaded from the Forms tab on the RSS website.

What is the policy for live streaming?

HMS GCE may only certify live portions of your series.  Please review the Live Streaming Policy and complete the Live Streaming Supplement to the course proposal if you wish to receive credit for the live streaming of your RSS session(s).  Sessions that are recorded to be viewed on demand cannot be certified for CME through HMS GCE.

All above referenced policies and forms can be downloaded from the Forms tab on the RSS website.
